This is a broad based commercial legal counsel role for a candidate who enjoys a high level of stakeholder contact and responsibility and involves building strong relationships with internal and external customers of British Gas.
Experience of general commercial contracting is essential, and the successful candidate should also have experience in at least one of the following disciplines:
- Energy and/or financial services regulation
- Marketing law
- Competition
- Franchising
- Consumer law
- IT contracting
- Disputes
- M&A/ /JVs and investments

The successful candidate will perform a broad commercial role developing and utilising effective commercial relationships with business colleagues to support and grow our business. In addition to excellent business unit engagement, this role will require
- Creativity, flexibility and the ability to determine and mitigate key risks in a fast-moving situations
- Experience of advising on transactions, propositions and projects
- Drafting and negotiation of contracts
- An aptitude for resolving customer issues

We are looking for a Legal Counsel with excellent stakeholder engagement and influencing skills. The successful candidate will be:
- A solicitor qualified (or licensed to practice) in England and Wales with a current practicing certificate
- Able to demonstrate that he/she is capable and has experience of:
- Managing a varied caseload
- Adapting to deal with complex legal issues outside their core experience
- Leading and managing complex and high value general commercial projects, contracts and corporate transactions
We particularly value experience working for a busy in house legal team
