To support our strategy of increasing our gas supplies from our own assets, we are rapidly expanding our involvement in international exploration and production with assets in the North Sea, Nigeria, Egypt & Trinidad & Tobago.

We employ, geologists, geophysicists, reservoir and production engineers as well as a range of commercial and support personnel at our offices in the UK, Norway, The Netherlands & Trinidad. We are undertaking a number of exciting new projects to increase our gas production and to help hedge us against market volatility in supporting our British Gas customer base.

Project HSE Advisor - Overview:



Centrica Energy Upstream




  • To provide HSE leadership and support to the Projects Team on all NWE projects.
  • To work closely with project managers, engineers and contractors to ensure that the risks associated with facilities designs are managed to be as low as reasonably practicable.
  • To work closely with project managers, engineers and contractors to ensure that the occupational health and safety risks during project execution are managed to be as low as reasonably practicable.
  • To ensure that the required projects permits, consents and notifications are completed effectively and in a timely manner.
  • To provide assurance to stakeholders that projects exhibit a best practice approach to HSE and meet or exceed legislative requirements and company standards.

Project HSE Advisor - The Role:




  • Act as a focal point for HSE matters on NWE projects, demonstrating proactive visible leadership in HSE; engaging with the project teams and management to build a positive culture.
  • Ensure implementation of all CEU HSE Policies and Standards and to ensure that all procedures and processes are consistently applied across all projects.
  • Ensure project team members understand (and act on) the HSEQ expectations that CEU places on them and provide guidance and assistance to help them meet those expectations.
  • Participate in project risk assesments and hazops and review studies prepared by contractors and consultants.
  • Provide assurance that the projects HSE management process is being adhered to - this will include inherent safety in design; ALARP demonstration; management of change; a high level of HSE performance through construction and commissioning; environmental compliance; project execution plan / HSE plans in place and adhered to; risk assessment plans in place and to plan; verification on track; interfaces well managed; handover to asset complete.
  • Maintain an overview of the status of project environmental and quality activities and deliverables, working closely with project environtal and quality advisors.
  • Participate in or lead incident investigations as required.
  • Contribute to wider CEU HSEQ Function activities as required
  • May be required to fulfill a role on the emergency response team.


Challenge to success -




  • Reporting directly to the HSEQ Manager -Projects, the position provides HSE leadership and a source of expertise on matters affecting health and safety.
  • A key challenge is to ensure that the wide range of contractors involved at multiple locations with design, construction, installation and conmmissioning meet CEU's standards and fulfill the expecations of the CE Way
  • HSE performance within CEU is delivered through the co-operation of all managers, supervisors and the general workforce. This role requires considerable influencing skills and personal attributes that will generate credibility and respect at all levels.
  • An additional challenge is the changing environment as CEU developes its HSEQMS and new processes and standards require implementation across the business.






Project HSE Advisor - The Person:




  • The job holder must possess extensive knowledge of health and safety management systems, practices and legislation, which would be underpinned by substantial experience at a senior level position in the energy or process industry.
  • A strong awareness of quality and environmental management is also a requirement.
  • Broad experience is required within the offshore oil and gas industry including projects, asset integrity and preferably production operations.
  • The job holder should have direct experience of working with contractors; conducting incident investigations; facilitating risk assessments; conducting audits and preparing emergency plans. Understanding and knowledge is required of safety case preparation; safety critical elements, performance standards and verification and the typical range of safety studies and modelling carried out during facility design. Experience of dealing with and building relationships with regulators is essential.
  • The jobholder will have an engineering or HSE practitioner background and will be educated to degree level (preferably in an engineering discipline) and have Chartered Engineer or Chartered Safety Professional or similar professional status.
  • Leadership and communciation skills are essential co-ordinate a large and diverse team and motivate personnel to align with the CE way and achieve HSE objectives.
  • The effective management of the internal and external relationships requires strong interpersonal and influencing skills
